Malingering

According to the DSM-IV, the essential definition of Malingering is the intentional manufacturing of false or extremely exaggerated symptoms, motivated by external incentives such as financial compensation, avoidance of work, avoidance of criminal responsibility, etc. Malingering assessment is based on behavioral observations, collateral information, and objective testing instruments. Given the legal context of forensic evaluations, malingering should always be considered by the evaluator.
